PATTAYA, Thailand – On May 21st, 2025, Pattaya City Hall’s Thappraya Room hosted the opening of a program aimed at improving the quality of life for the city’s elderly population. The initiative, targeting Pattaya’s Elderly School, was inaugurated by Pattaya Mayor Poramese Ngampichet, with city council members, administrators, and relevant agencies in attendance.
Siwat Boonkerd, Deputy Permanent Secretary of Pattaya City, highlighted that the program aligns with Thailand’s 20-year National Strategy for human resource development. This strategy focuses on fostering well-being across all age groups, promoting physical, mental, and intellectual health, as well as encouraging public-spiritedness, with communities serving as the foundation for well-being.
Currently, 14.51% of Pattaya’s population is aged 60 and above, meeting the United Nations’ threshold for an “aging society,” defined as having over 10% of the population in this age group. To address this demographic shift and prepare for a high-quality aging population, Pattaya’s Public Health and Environment Office, through its Health Promotion Division, launched this program. The initiative seeks to foster group networks to drive elderly development, promote well-being, and inspire senior citizens to serve as role models contributing to society.
The event saw participation from 115 individuals, including members of the Pattaya Elderly Welfare Center Committee, the Pattaya Elderly Club Committee, the third cohort of the Elderly School, and representatives from the Public Health and Environment Office and the Social Welfare Office.
The program comprises two main activities: a community-driven initiative to enhance elderly well-being through networking, fostering inspiration, and building group relationships, and a study tour of elderly care facilities in Rayong Province, scheduled for May 28–30, 2025.
