Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi Arrives in Bangkok for BIMSTEC Summit

Bangkok, April 3, 2025 – Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi touched down in Bangkok today, marking the start of a diplomatic visit to Thailand. Greeted with a warm reception by the local Indian community chanting “Modi Modi” the Prime Minister was officially welcomed by Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, Suriya Jungrungreangkit, at Don Mueang Airport.

Modi’s arrival sets the stage for his participation in the 6th BIMSTEC Summit, scheduled for April 4, aimed at fostering regional cooperation among Bay of Bengal nations.

The visit, at the invitation of Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, is part of the deep cultural and historical ties between India and Thailand. Modi expressed enthusiasm about strengthening bilateral relations, stating on X, “Landed in Bangkok, Thailand. Looking forward to participating in the upcoming official engagements and strengthening the bonds of cooperation between India and Thailand.” His itinerary includes bilateral talks with Pm Shinawatra and a meeting with Thailand’s King, His Royal Majesty Maha Vajiralongkorn, alongside interactions with the Indian community.

The BIMSTEC Summit will see Modi engaging with leaders from Bangladesh, Bhutan, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Thailand to advance collaboration in areas like connectivity, trade, and economic growth. Highlighting India’s strategic role, Modi noted the importance of the North Eastern region as a gateway to the Bay of Bengal. Following his Thailand visit, he will proceed to Sri Lanka on April 4th for a two-day state visit.
