PATTAYA, Thailand – On May 23, 2025, a woman in her 40s unwittingly attempted to purchase crystal methamphetamine, locally known as “ice,” from an undercover police officer during a drug crackdown in Pattaya’s Jomtien area.
The operation, led by Deputy Inspector Prasit Boonprasit of the Pattaya City Police Station’s anti-drug unit, targeted drug users and dealers in Jomtien Sois 2, 3, and 4 as part of a government initiative to make the community drug-free, which we covered previously here.
While officers were patrolling the area to identify drug traffickers and users, the woman approached Deputy Inspector Prasit, unaware he was a police officer, and asked to buy “ice.” When offered a block of actual ice, she quickly clarified, “Not that kind! I want the crystal kind you can smoke!” She even gestured for the officer to keep his voice down and reassured him, saying, “It’s fine, it’s the ‘work-hard drug,’ no need to worry.” Despite additional officers arriving to support the operation, she persisted in trying to buy the drugs, causing frustration among the police.
It was only when the officers revealed their identities that the woman realized her mistake. Visibly shocked, she was immediately detained and taken for a drug test. Authorities also arrested a suspected drug dealer in the same area, seizing evidence for further investigation. Both individuals were handed over to investigators for legal proceedings.
