PATTAYA, Thailand – In the early hours of May 28th, 2025, police received a report of a suicide at a condominium in Pattaya, Chonburi province. The incident occurred at approximately 2:46 AM in a residence located in Nongprue.
Police Lieutenant Chaineret Phengkaen, deputy investigator at the Dongtan sub-branch of Pattaya City Police Station, responded to the scene alongside patrol officers and rescue personnel. Upon arrival, authorities discovered the body of Ms. Chalom (last name withheld), a 53-year-old woman, who had taken her life by hanging herself with a nylon rope. The rope was tied to a curtain rod near a glass door, and Ms. Chalom was found in a kneeling position, leaning against a sofa.
Officers secured the area, prohibiting unauthorized access, and carefully removed the body from the rope. A preliminary examination of the room revealed no signs of a struggle or physical assault.
Mr. Burth, a 67-year-old Swiss national and Ms. Chalom’s partner, provided a statement to the police. He explained that he had gone to bed while Ms. Chalom remained outside the bedroom watching television. Waking up in the middle of the night and noticing her absence, he called out to her but received no response. Upon checking the living area, he was devastated to find her lifeless body. After gathering his composure, Mr. Thomas immediately contacted the condominium’s security staff for assistance.
A security guard at the condominium vouched for Mr. Thomas’s account, stating that the Swiss man had rushed to them in a state of panic, reporting that his partner had hanged herself. The guard noted that the couple had lived together in the condo for a long period and had never shown signs of conflict.
Police Lieutenant Chaineret documented the scene and collected evidence. Mr. Thomas will undergo further questioning, as he was the last person with the deceased. Ms. Chalom’s body has been sent to the Police Hospital’s Institute of Forensic Medicine for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. The investigation remains ongoing.
