Thai Rock Star Sek Loso Sentenced to Almost Three Years in Prison by Supreme Court For 2017 Case

BANGKOK, May 20th, 2025 — The Supreme Court of Thailand has sentenced renowned rock musician Sek Loso, whose real name is Seksan Sukpimai, to two years, twelve months, and twenty days in prison. The ruling, announced today, stems from a 2017 case involving drug-related charges and obstructing arrest.

The verdict concludes a high-profile legal battle that has drawn public attention due to Sek Loso’s status as a prominent figure in Thailand’s music industry. The court found the 50-year-old singer guilty of possessing and using illegal substances, as well as resisting law enforcement during his arrest in 2017.

Sek Loso, known for hits like Pantip and Bpam, has not yet issued a public statement regarding the sentencing. His legal team is expected to review options for appeal or clemency, though no further details have been disclosed at this time.

The case has sparked discussions on social media, with fans expressing a mix of support and disappointment. Authorities have confirmed that Sek Loso will serve his sentence as mandated, barring any new legal developments and was taken to a remand prison immediately after the verdict.

As for the original case, on December 31st, 2017, Thai rock musician Seksan Sukpimai, known as Sek Loso, was arrested at his home in Bangkok’s Bang Khen district following a series of events that began with him firing a 9mm pistol into the air at Wat Khao Khun Phanom in Nakhon Si Thammarat on December 30, 2017, after a concert.

The shooting, which he live-streamed on Facebook, led to his arrest on charges of illegal firearm possession, carrying a weapon in public, and discharging a firearm without justifiable reason. When police arrived at his home with a search warrant, Sek resisted arrest, threatened officers with the firearm, and was subsequently found to have traces of methamphetamine and ecstasy in his system after a urine test.
The Min Buri Criminal Court initially sentenced him in October 2018 to three years and nine months for drug abuse, resisting arrest, threatening police with a gun, and illegal firearm possession, rejecting his claim of bipolar disorder as a defense. This sentence was combined with a separate one-year, three-month term for assaulting an aide of his then-ex-wife, Wiphakorn Sukpimai, totaling a 42-month sentence.

The Appeal Court in 2020 upheld the verdict but reduced the firearms possession penalty from five to three months, adjusting the combined sentence to two years and eighteen months. On May 20, 2025, the Supreme Court finalized the sentence at two years, twelve months, and twenty days, covering the drug use, resisting arrest, and firearm charges from the 2017 incident, and Sek was as stated previously immediately taken into custody.

Throughout the legal process, Sek was granted bail multiple times, including 500,000 baht in 2018 and 600,000 baht in 2021, while his appeals were ongoing. Sek Loso had just performed earlier this month in Pattaya, notes TPN Media.
