PRESS RELEASE:
Authorities have stepped up action against illegal tourism activities with the launch of the Joint Operations Center for Combating Nominee Tourism Businesses. Led by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports in cooperation with five government agencies, the center targets nominee-operated tour companies and unlicensed guides in major tourist destinations across the country.
From October 2024 to March 2025, authorities inspected 940 tour operators and 338 tour guides. Violations among operators included running businesses without valid licenses, failing to display certification, and not providing required travel insurance. Tour guides were found working without licenses or lacking official work orders.
Penalties include fines of up to 500,000 baht and two years in prison for unlicensed operators, and up to 100,000 baht and one year in prison for unlicensed guides. Tour advertisements must also clearly show the company’s license number, name, and address to meet legal requirements.
The government says these efforts are part of its long-term plan to improve tourism safety and credibility, supporting efforts to strengthen industry standards while protecting Thailand’s image as a reliable travel destination.
The public is urged to report suspected illegal operations through official channels, including the Department of Tourism’s Facebook page or by email. Authorities have pledged ongoing inspections to ensure fair and lawful tourism services nationwide.
