BOR THONG, CHONBURI – On May 18th, 2025, over 1,000 residents of Bor Thong District gathered at Bor Kwang Thong School in Moo 4, Bor Kwang Thong Subdistrict, to voice concerns over the proposed construction of two factories—a corrugated cardboard box plant and a vinyl floor tile factory—reportedly owned by Chinese investors.
The public hearing, attended by Chonburi MP Jirawut Singtothong, Bo Thong District Chief Nanthawat Thongchuang, provincial urban planning and industrial officials, and local leaders, was meant to address community concerns but highlighted deep divisions among residents.
Villagers demanded clear explanations from the factory operators regarding the projects’ impacts. However, the operators allegedly failed to provide adequate documentation or clarification, requesting more time to prepare before scheduling another meeting.
Some residents opposed the factories outright, holding protest signs against the construction, while others expressed conditional support, stating they would welcome the factories if they caused no pollution or harm and complied with legal permitting processes. Proponents also noted potential job opportunities for locals.
The lack of prepared documentation frustrated attendees, who stressed the need for transparency and legal compliance before construction can proceed. Authorities and factory representatives agreed to hold another meeting to address concerns and provide detailed information to the community.
