Pattaya Holds Open International Taekwondo Championship 2025 Featuring Thailands Olympic Gold Medalist Hero, Tennis Panipak

On May 10th, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., Mr. Poramese Ngampichet, Mayor of Pattaya, presided over the opening ceremony and welcomed athletes to the “Pattaya Open International Taekwondo Championship 2025.”

Mr. Kim Kyung-Duk, President of the Gyeonggi-do Taekwondo Association from the Republic of Korea, also delivered a greeting. The event was attended by Mr. Krisana Boonsawat, Deputy Mayor of Pattaya, Mr. Banlue Kullavanij, President of the Pattaya City Council, along with Vice Presidents and members of the Pattaya City Council, the Mayor’s working team, members of the Chonburi Provincial Administrative Organization from Banglamung District, executives and committee members of the Gyeonggi-do Taekwondo Association, and relevant government officials. The event took place at the Indoor Sports Arena, Eastern National Sports Center in Pattaya.

Organized by Pattaya City in collaboration with the Gyeonggi-do Taekwondo Association from South Korea, this marks the fifth consecutive year of the event. The championship aims to promote and develop taekwondo skills among youth in Pattaya and nearby areas, providing competitive experience to foster excellence and elevate the competition to international standards.

The event featured Poomsae and Kyorugi (sparring) categories, with over 1,000 athletes from 49 teams across Thailand participating and more than 3,000 spectators in attendance. This event promotes tourism, enhances Pattaya’s image as a Sports City, and supports sports tourism.

This year, Pattaya City and the Gyeonggi-do Taekwondo Association went all out, offering special awards to two winners from each category to travel to South Korea for a 5-night, 6-day training and competition experience. Adding to the excitement, Thailand’s two-time Olympic taekwondo gold medalist, “Tennis” Panipak Wongpattanakit, a beloved figure among young athletes, was invited to inspire and cheer on the competitors, adding excitement to the event.
